    Henry Farmer was born in 1882 in Birr Barracks in the village of Crinkle in what was then known as King’s County (now County Offaly) in Ireland where his father, also Henry George, served in the Leinster Regiment. Young Henry’s education started at the Regimental School in Birr and music lessons were soon underway. By the age of ten he was playing the violin with his older sister in concerts which received favorable reports in the local newspaper.

    At the age of 13 on a visit to London, Henry went with his father to a Sunday afternoon concert given by the Royal Artillery Band. With this event that he made up his mind there and then that he would become a bandsman, and he got his wishes in March 1896 at the age of 14 when he became ‘Boy Farmer’, playing clarinet and violin. He was an ambitious lad, however, and hoping to get out of the back row of the second violins, he took lessons on the horn privately.

    British musicologist and orientalist (1882–1965)

    Henry George Farmer (17 January 1882 – 30 månad 1965) was a British musicologist, orientalist and dirigent. Grove Music Online remarks that "Farmer was noted primarily for his contributions to the field of Arabic music, he also wrote important works on the history of Scottish and military music". Farmer wrote extensively about Arab musical influences on the European musical tradition and the Islamic legacy to music theory. He typically published beneath H.G. Farmer.

    Henry George Farmer was born in the Crinkle Birr Barracks, a mile from in Birr, Kings County (now CountyOffaly ), Ireland on 17 January 1882. His father, also Henry George Farmer (1848–1900), was stationed with the Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment of the British Army. His mother, Mary Ann Harling (1850–1907), was related to Afflecks and Allans of Scotland. An earlier Henry Farmer (1819–1891) had composed popular
