    Sophia Magdalena Scholl[a] (9 May – 22 February ) was a German student and anti-Nazi political activist, active in the White Rose non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany.[1][2]

    She was convicted of high treason after having been found distributing anti-war leaflets at the University of Munich with her brother, Hans. For her actions, she was executed by guillotine. Since the s, Scholl has been extensively commemorated for her anti-Nazi resistance.

    Scholl was the daughter of Magdalena (née Müller) and Robert Scholl, a liberal politician and ardent Nazi critic, who was the mayor of her home town of Forchtenberg am Kocher in the Free People's State of Württemberg at the time of her birth. She was the fourth of six children:

Sophie, along with her brother Hans (–) and the friends Christoph Probst (), Alexander Schmorell (), Willi Graf (), and Traute Lafrenz (), were leading members of a small passive resistance group named the White Rose. Through producing leaflets from through , denouncing the Nazi regime and ongoing war, they hoped to discredit the regime and sabotage the war effort. The group of Munich students were idealistic, religious, young, and deeply committed to their ‘moral duty.’ Sophie, Hans, and Christoph would all pay for their outspoken criticism of the Nazis with their lives.

      Sophie Scholl was born in May , one of six children, to war nurse Magdalena Müller and liberal politician Robert Scholl.
